Anaheim 2009 Reunion Highlights

 Major General Richard P. Mills

Commander, 1ST Marine Division, United States Marine Corps

 and

Echo 2/7 Chapter President Jeffrey "Doc" Levine

Not your everyday meeting

Saturday evening at this year's FMDA Reunion in Anaheim, the guest of Honor and Key Note Speaker Major General Richard P. Mills, Commander of the 1ST Marine Division stood behind the dinner table talking to staff. Approaching his table was heard "General, we need to do this. General, we need to do that. General Mills, please step here for photographs. General Mills, please come this way." Then, Elliott Levine, brother of Jeff "Doc" Levine, came forward and said "General, my brother was wounded serving as a Corpsman in combat. He was hit in the head by a 50 caliber round aiding wounded Marines while in Vietnam. He has a Bronze Star and Combat V. He would be most proud if I could take a picture of you with him." The General put down his papers and began to leave from behind his table. His entourage said "General, please come this way." The General replied sternly "Not now. Wait here". General Mills came to the Echo 2/7 dinner table to meet Doc Levine. He spent over 20 minutes with us talking and taking pictures. He told us his Echo 2/7 Marines are walking in our footsteps.
Spending time with him he posed for many photographs proving that in our Corps there are only Marines.

When shaking hands with Doc Levine he palmed him his personal coin. One side showing Commander 1ST Marine Division, and the back showing his flag of a two-star General.

Days We'll Remember

We Had A Wonderful Time

Simply put, we had a great time. Seeing Marines you served with some 40 years ago is quite an experience. I believe that all of us who attended our annual reunion shared a wonderful time together. There is nothing we would like better than to see us repeat that gratifying experience again next year. We have the time and the place. All we need is YOU!

Our Corps must think highly of us to send the honor of a General and the 1ST Division Marine Division Band. We all felt so proud knowing Once a Marine, Always a Marine!
A very special thanks to Chapter Secretary Jimmy Clendennen for getting our chapter a table front and center to enjoy the proceedings.
Thank you to all who came.
