California's Paid Family Leave Insurance Program

July 1, 2004, California's new Paid Family Leave insurance program took effect. This program provides partial wage replacement to covered employees who must provide care for a seriously ill family member or who need time to bond with a new child.

Paid Family Leave Insurance For California workers covered by State Disability Insurance, Paid Family Leave insurance provides up to six weeks of benefits for individuals who must take time off to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, parent, domestic partner, or to bond with a new minor child.

The Paid Family Leave law requires employers to provide the Paid Family Leave, DE 2511, brochure only to new employees who start after January 1, 2004, and persons who request leave to care for a seriously ill family member or bond with a new child after July 1, 2004.
